About us
If you have come this far, we imagine it is because you are interested in learning more about us (well… about me really because there is no one else here at the moment) and before I start talking about how amazing I am (irony mode on), I want you to know that I would also like to know more about you and for me, your opinion on the books and other writings we have published on this website is really, really important.
If you are thinking that I am dragging it out because I am shy, I can tell you that it is not because of that; it is just that I am really bad at talking about myself. Honestly, it is very difficult for me to do so, but I will try my best to achieve it.
I am Marc Sotelo Soto, author of the “Guardian of the Worlds” saga. Honestly, I have the impression that lately there are a lot of sagas, aren’t there? Well, if you think about it, if something works, why not make more of it? Although the truth, as demonstrated by Star Wars, is that too much of a good thing can be tiring. However, we are not bringing you just another saga with the intention of churning out as many books as possible to make more money. I can assure you that I have been developing this idea for a very long time.
Before continuing to explain where the ideas that led me to create this series of books and writings come from, I would like to tell you something. Do you remember when you were a child and they asked you what you wanted to be when you grew up? People tell you things like “follow your passion” or “do what you love and work won’t feel like work”. Well, my problem was (and still is) that I like everything and perhaps that has made me know a little about everything. I love gastronomy, science, music, sports, etc. However, there was one thing that I had never liked and that I would never have imagined would end up liking so much, and you can probably guess what it is: “literature”. It is quite funny. In the last year of pre–university studies, I failed history, English, and literature. And I say funny because today I have a master’s degree in modern history (who knows, maybe someday I will feel like doing my doctoral thesis), I am a certified English teacher (in fact, I have been a teacher for a long time, especially in English, and now I love writing and reading).
Well, now let’s focus on how “The Guardian of the Worlds” came about. I remember many years ago, when I was exactly eight years old, my parents had a painting in my house that depicted the fire of Montserrat Mountain, in Catalonia, where I am from. However, what I saw in that painting was not a burning mountain (let me tell you that I am not very good at reading images), I saw gods there. Yes, gods! And I imagined them creating factions and fighting among themselves for control of something (does that sound a little familiar to you now?). Obviously, I was a child and those things were forgotten, but like a good millennial child (do not think I am an old man writing stories, ah!), I loved Dragon Ball Z (yes, Dragon Ball Z, nothing to do with the first Dragon Ball). I especially loved the Cell saga.
Obviously, I was growing up, and often I would stay alone at home and the computer was only for work and I did not have internet (and do not even mention TikTok or Instagram!), in fact, almost nobody had internet at home when I was a teenager. So, I remember spending my free time in my room, goofing around, imagining stories of superheroes saving a planet (you see how things are starting to get colourful). Until, at sixteen years old, influenced by books like Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot, I started writing my first chapter of a detective novel (well, never try to label me because I like to mix things up a bit). When I finished the chapter, I read it to my mother and she liked it (with a few “buts”, however, she encouraged me to keep going). Obviously, I continued, but when I reread it, I got discouraged and eventually set it aside (the book, because the idea, more than fourteen years later, is still in my head, and I can tell you that it will be another series of books titled “Antoni Gliacore” and I imagine that this name will sound familiar to you).
Then I went to university. And now, yes, I wanted to write that great book about a superhero who saves the world from different villains just as I had imagined in my free time during my adolescence; but again, everything I wrote displeased me and, in the end, I abandoned the idea believing that writing was not my thing.
When I started working, I realized that it was not for me. I hate being told what to do or being tied down by schedules. I guess I am a bohemian! And then, once again, that idea of the young man who becomes a superhero and is sent to a planet to save it began to emerge… but then new elements came to my mind. Why just a young man? Why does he have to save this planet? Who sends him to that planet? And as if by magic, boom! Huros, Yakren, Racht, etc. appeared. The rest, you already know.
For almost three years, I was brainstorming the first book, and when I began to see that the story had potential, I started to create the three trilogies that I have in mind right now. You might be thinking to yourself, “But didn’t you say earlier that less is more?” Indeed. Nine books of three hundred and sixty-nine pages each (I challenge you to guess why that number of pages, to the point of telling an editor that they couldn’t change a single word in the document I sent to respect the page count) are a lot of pages (three thousand three hundred and twenty-one pages exactly). But I can assure you that each trilogy has been carefully crafted with enthusiasm to offer you the best of this magnificent story. (I’ll tell you that I even thought about creating a fourth trilogy, but that seemed like too much – fourteen hundred seventy-six pages to be exact – and I couldn’t see the point or plot for it.) So I can assure you that each trilogy has its thread with the rest (not only the universal gems, but also relationships, memories, and literary resources that unite them), but each is made with its own character and arguments.
If you’re also interested in creating your own story and need a guide or don’t know how to do it, in the not-too-distant future, we’ll create a section where we’ll help potential writers make their dreams come true. Our idea is to create articles and videos that serve as a guide for you to create the novel of your dreams.
In addition, let me also recommend our YouTube channel where you can listen to us narrate your favorite books in a way you’ve never heard before.
And that’s all I wanted to say. See how in the end I hardly talked about myself! Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this presentation. If you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to contact me at my email address: marc@theguardianoftheworlds.com
Best regards,
Marc Sotelo.
